on Time Delivery: a Mobile 60kVA 115V 400Hz GPU in Brunei

As a project manager in marketing division, the most rewarding calls are the ones that start with, “We have a tight deadline and a norm requirement for electric 400hz GPU.” That’s exactly what brought our team to Brunei on June,2019.

The client needed a reliable 400Hz Ground Power Unit (GPU) as replacement for the existing one to service an aircraft at one aerodrome, the GPU must come with 30m super flexible cables and connector: it couldn’t be a stationary type. They needed the power unit on trolley to be towable on the tarmac. Our solution? A robust 60kVA or 90kVA 400Hz frequency converter on trolley is well considered.

Customer finally ordered one 60kVA GPU with 15 days delivery from China to Brunei, the time is very tight, My team was to ensure this mobile power unit not only just delivered to meet their strict schedule, but also fully operational commissioned at site. We designed the trolley for stability and ease of movement, with one day adjust and test, burnt-in test etc., and use one new color in blue on enclosure to cater to customer’s preference.

The commissioning was a success. Customer’s engineer connected the GPU with the utility 3 phase incoming power 50Hz, to verify a clean 400Hz at output.

The best feedback we can get? The customer’s comment for the GPU – the unit is “incredibly user-friendly for operator and has good and stable performance for aircraft engine start .”

This project is a perfect example of how a well-executed 400Hz mobile GPU can solve logistical challenges and keep critical operations.
